FASHIONISTA in the making

My sweet Cannon has been a very quiet and easy child for the longest time. In the last year, she has become a really cool kid who has her own way of doing things. Very confident, but still shy at the same time. What a combination. She has been dressing herself for a very long time. As soon as my girls are able to open a drawer I let them do their own clothes (with a little guidance on weather). Sorenna has had an interesting style at times, Thorin has been very basic and sporty, but CANNON.....she is very different.

I noticed some of the outfits were very interesting and decided to take a photo of her clothes for a week or so....I wanted to see how long it lasted.
Here is what walked to school with us in the last few weeks.

She is just one sweet little thing and her style is somuch of who she is and how much of a pixie girl she is growing up to be every day.

Cannon's Head BONK

Cannon's head meets bookshelf full force. It was a very scary event. The school called in a panic and was saying it was NOT A COURTESY CALL....please call back. The only problem, my phone went to voice mail and I couldn't get the message so I had no idea who was calling. They finally got me on the phone and was about to take her to the ER. I rushed her over and we spent a lot of time there. We had 3 xrays and lots of tests. It was the size of a baseball. She was happy to finally go home.

FINALLY....there is CAKE!

Sorenna was watching How-to videos with Thorin one day and they started brainstorming about her cake. They found this one on line and told me this was the one.

I had 2 final papers due and we had put her All-day event on hold for a week, but I was still trying to get the cake done before we left that day.

I thought I had saved the video link on the computer and had all the icing, cake, extras and such ready....then the video froze!

I was stuck for a while trying to figure the cutting pattern.

I finally got it, the cake was done and it was a success!

It turned out very cute and it was yummy too.

I am glad she is easily impressed!

Goodnight Moon Theater camp

The secrets of Goodnight Moon were revealed during an afternoon backstage theater camp.

The girls were given the chance to go to a backstage camp for the play we attended. The story was so cool, I thought they would appreciate it much more if they knew how hard it was to pull off. We arrived and the director told them about some of the history of the story and the stage production. Then they got the tour of backstage and a rundown of how things worked back there like the props and things the actors would need during the show. Three of the actors played several parts.

Here is the story rundown.

There is a bunny and a mouse. The mouse in all the other stage shows is a stuffed thing.

This director thought a GIANT mouse would be more fun...and it was!

There are 3 other actors. They play a dog, cat and dish w/ a spoon for a side story of the cow jumped over the moon. The cow (from the original story) tries to jump over the moon....the cat and fiddle, dog and dish and spoon sing a great version of the cow over the moon.

THEN....there are the 3 bears.... the ones in the photo. They come to life! They have magnets on the bears in the photo and they wiggle off the frame and disappear in the wall...then appear on stage. They do a dance and it is really fast and fun. There is the old lady whispering HUSH..but sometimes she doesn't whisper....she yells HUSHHHHHH one time and it was too funny.

Then there is one more story. Bunny is losing a tooth. The TOOTHFAIRY comes out and it is great. It is a guy in striped stocking and a TUTU! I LOVED the Toothfairy. He sings about not waking the bunny and not letting the floor squeek and all the while he is THUMPING across the stage in an almost TAP dance number!

I got tons of photos of the girls acting out the bear's dance moves, the bunny answering the phone and the mouse telling bunny NOT to answer the phone. The kids were allowed to go in house where the toothfairy comes out and Sorenna stuck her head out the door and it was too cute.

ALL DAY SORENNA DAY part 2

This was the evening of Sorenna day. It was a great event. Sorenna and I had gone on a field trip to see this play "Goodnight Moon" and it was really well done.

She decided she wanted her sisters to see it, so we booked it. The girls got to stay after the show and meet the actors. It was so funny. Cannon only wanted to talk to the cat, but she humored me with a photo near "Bunny".

The story was broken into little mini stories and lasted longer than I thought that small book could last.

I loved the entire play. Great dancing, fun music and a great extended story.

ALL DAY SORENNA DAY part 1

This was all-day Sorenna day. We have a family rule that after the 5th Birthday party....no more for a while. We instead go do an adventure of the birthday girl's choice. Sorenna was very excited and picked something she had already done during a field trip, but wanted to share with her sisters. I decided that an unselfish choice like that deserved a second adventure as well. We went to the Bishop Museum all morning for the Cartoon Network event. This thing was a blast. I was worried it would be crowded, but is was not at all. I was thinking we would have fun for a couple hours. I was wrong. The girls played in the exhibit from 9:30am- 2:30pm when I was forced to drag them out! There were some really cool machines. One was a freeze-frame booth. The girls were given a countdown then they were to pose for 14 frames...then it was made into a mini cartoon clip. That was a blast, but the one that really got them excited was the pivot booth. The girls again were given a countdown for one instant photo. At that time several cameras took thier photo at the same time from different angles. The effect was fun. It looked like they were spinning in one place (like the power puff girls). They got a little crazy with that one and tried to be airborne for the moment of the photo. It was a challenge to get them all in the air, but they got it. I took a photo during the video replay. It is at the bottom. Cannon is in the air in a hop position. Thorin is up high and sorenna is arching her body. It was cool when it pivoted.
The other things included making their own cartoon with shapes and taking photos with the shapes in different positions. The other one was a foley booth. They recorded sounds to a clip that was made. The tools for the sounds were in a row and the kids had to do it at the correct time. It was really fun.
There was an electric toothbrush for the fly buzzing around. Too simple! We of course had to stop for some lunch and a shaved ice! The girls got to try on a head dress too.

Amazing Hawaiian Church

Today we went to have an adventure downtown. We arrived early to the theater and decided to explore a bit. We ended up at the fountain of a big church. The theater is part of this church, so we hung out there for a while. I thought the outside was interesting and figured I would take the photo of all the glass to show to my mom who just got into stained glass art. The church doors were open when we went to get close ups and so we went in. The outside of this church does not do this place justice!

Hiking Hawaii

It was Sorenna's birthday and the FRG had a hike scheduled. I gave her the choice of what we were doing and she wanted to go on an adventure.
We had a great hike through a nice forest area.
We saw a mongoose, some lizards and these really cool Hawaiian drawings. We had to go off the beaten path to get to these, but it was worth it.

It was an amazing day and the girls left the pack behind. There were kids bigger than Cannon in strollers. I think it was more for the moms (until they realized it was an ACTUAL HIKE) ...there were strollers abandoned along the path....we were the leaders and ran into the controlled hunter...so we turned around. Not in the mood to be mistaken for a pig!

Easter Weekend

Well, after the serious Easter (Good Friday) event, we had a fun time.
The girls went to an event out on a big field with ride, blow up bouncers and music. We had a really good time, but the big hit of the day was the giant gecko!
We love that thing. At every event the girls want a new photo with it. It finally made it into the blog.

The girls wore the pretty dresses we found at out TARGET adventure earlier.

The dresses were so cute, we took tons of photos. My mom sent them these unique stain-glasses necklaces. They were very pretty on the girls for Easter.
